Wrap Up: 2022 Opex Technologies Family Day and Kid's Fishing Tournament

This year marked our 2nd Annual Family Day and Kid’s Fishing Tournament and we had an amazing time with everyone at Opex Farm. The day was filled with activities for kids of all ages, special guests, a raffle for prizes donated by our amazing sponsors, and delicious foods from some of the top food trucks in the area.

As the name suggests, the big event of the day was our Kid’s fishing tournament. With rod and reel in hand, kids flocked down to the pond to try their luck at reeling in a trophy perch, crappie, or bass. Once they reeled their fish in, members of the Opex staff helped unhook the fish, weighed, and logged the fish to determine the winner before releasing the fish back into the pond. Kendall was the big winner, hauling in a striped bass that tipped the scale at almost 3 lbs!

This event would be nothing without our incredible sponsors, many of whom were kind enough to donate prizes for our raffle. Guests were given raffle tickets as they arrived to use as their entries for some wonderful prizes ranging from Bluetooth speakers to a flat-screen TV! Sponsors for the event include 8×8, AT&T Business, AppSmart, Avant, Cato Networks, Evolve IP, Expedient, Expereo, Digital Reality, Global Digital, Lumen, Comcast Business, Nord Security, Observe AI, Open Systems, Performive, RapidScale, RingCentral, Spectrum Enterprise, TalkDesk, Thrive, Tier Point, Trustwave, Ubistor, Vaco Built, Vonage, and Windstream Enterprise.

We had 2 fascinating wild animal presentations. First up was a Birds of Prey presentation. Kids (and adults) were introduced to two different species of owl and a condor, learning all about their natural habitats, unique features, and what they like to munch on.

Later in the day, Dan the Animal Man wowed the crowd with monkeys, owls, and snakes, oh my! Everyone was excited to learn about these majestic creatures and even more excited to pose for pictures with the animals at the end!

To keep cool throughout the gorgeous day, kids could slide down the inflatable water slide and venture through the inflatable obstacle course. If they were still too warm, they could head over to the Kona Ice food truck for a tasty frozen treat!

If that wasn’t enough fun, kids could also sit and get a caricature drawing of themselves as their favorite fictional character or with someone special. Some popular drawings included kids dressed as Spiderman, Harry Potter, and with their dog.

Lunch was served from some a couple of our favorite local food trucks. Guests chose from 2 varieties of lobster roll and sides from Cousin’s Maine Lobster or one of 2 barbecue plates from Off the Hog BBQ. You couldn’t go wrong with either choice.

The day wouldn’t have been complete without a visit from one of our favorite local mascots, Mr. Wuf from NC State University! Mr. Wuf posed for pictures with families and even went down the slide with the kids!

By the end of the afternoon, the day’s events left smiles on every guest’s face as they headed on their way. Thank you again to all that made it, to our sponsors who made the day possible, and to everyone who helped make this year’s event one to remember!

We can’t wait to see you at next year’s event!

Thank you again to our sponsors!
